Corporate History

EMIT Water Discharge Technology, LLC was founded in 2002 by Joe Scott, a long-time oil and gas entrepreneur, when he saw the need for a solution to treat the large volume of water that resulted from the Coal Bed Methane (CBM) play in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming. In 2003, the Company took on additional investors while investigating a number of treatment solutions but ultimately discovered that an existing technology in use within another industry would be ideal for CBM produced water. The Higgins Loop Continuous Countercurrent Ion Exchange (CCIX) Technology could be modified to treat CBM produced water. EMIT was able to negotiate an agreement with Severn Trent for the exclusive right to use this technology for water treatment applications in the CBM industry.

The Company quickly developed a working Higgins Loop prototype, which included all the technology required to operate, adjust and monitor the unit from a remote location. The Company was able to secure a beta site for its first unit at a producer's well site. The unit exceeded expectations, and EMIT received its first order in August 2003. To date, the Company has enjoyed strong growth with multiple units capable of treating approximately [350,000] barrels of produced water on a daily basis.
